Two Comcare counsellors will interview the applicant individually. If a next of kin is present, they may be invited in later to provide additional information. The purpose of the interview is to understand the applicant’s needs, mental health history, and suitability for community living.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to reschedule if they cannot attend. If an applicant does not attend without notifying us, they will not be re-contacted for another appointment.
The Welcome Club is Comcare’s psychosocial rehabilitation day programme (08:30–12:30). Attendance helps applicants experience our routines, meet residents, and assess whether Comcare living is a good fit. Applicants must attend for at least 24 days (minimum two days per week).
Waiting times vary and depend on both availability and suitability of placement. Placement decisions are not based solely on date of application. Please note, Comcare does not provide emergency or respite care placements.
When a vacancy arises, applicants are chosen from the waiting list based on:
- Suitability for the specific house and residents
- Sex (for shared rooms)
- Willingness and ability to share or live alone
- Current mental health
The prospective resident will be invited for afternoon tea at the house to meet residents and staff. Both groups then provide feedback. If accepted, the applicant meets with the Director to sign a Board & Lodging Contract and finalise the move-in date.
The current full board and lodging fee is R8,120 per month. Fees are adjusted using a sliding scale (means test) based on the applicant’s and their family’s income. Final fees are discussed with the Director at the time of contract signing.
Preference is given to applicants living in the Western Cape, but applicants from other regions may be considered if they meet all criteria.
No. Comcare Trust does not provide emergency or short-term respite care.
