The Welcome Club is a psychosocial rehabilitation centre operated by Comcare Trust, offering daily group activities to support people with psychiatric disabilities. Our aim is to provide a safe, welcoming space where participants feel included, supported, and empowered to develop social and living skills.

The Welcome Club has a vibrant weekday programme located in a beautifully renovated former stores building on the Valkenberg Hospital grounds. Open from 08:30am to 12:30pm, it serves 70 to 80 participants daily in a warm, welcoming, and lively environment.

The club is open to all individuals living with psychiatric illness—including Comcare group home residents, applicants, non-residents, and hospital in-patients and outpatients. It provides a vital space for social connection, meaningful activity, and community belonging. Participants engage in a variety of creative, educational, and life-enhancing activities such as crafts, group discussions, and light exercise. A nutritious light lunch is prepared and served daily, promoting both wellbeing and a sense of home.

At its heart, the Welcome Club offers more than structured activity—it provides companionship, routine, and dignity. For many, it replaces isolation with inclusion and gives purpose to the day. Participants gather to drink coffee, create, laugh, and heal together, rather than sitting alone at home or wandering the streets.

The Welcome Club forms an integral part of Comcare Trust’s broader psychosocial rehabilitation programme. Grounded in a recovery-oriented, strengths-based, and person-centred approach, it supports participants in rebuilding confidence, developing skills, and fostering social connection. The services complement the therapeutic and residential supports residents may already be receiving, promoting autonomy, wellbeing, and quality of life.
